Venice High School
los angeles unified school district
HY Architects was selected to design a reconstruction of the center of the historic Venice High School. The project consisted of a Lunch Pavilion, Student Store and outdoor learning areas and quads as part of the overall master plan for the campus. In addition, HY Architects created 21st Century learning spaces to accommodate its emerging Small Learning Communities (SLC). This included modifying four classroom spaces into new administrative space to serve the SLC’s, and modifying four outdoor areas to support the SLC’s. In addition, HY is providing identity/branding services for each SLC.
The project also includes substantial underground utility improvements to control flooding and a high-water table. This included designing a large underground catchment to store water during peak flows. Our design implemented a dual purpose solution that not only solved the flooding issue but also created a new outdoor plaza and learning area.
