San Rafael High School – MACK Building

HY Architects’ partnership with San Rafael City Schools began with the development of a district-wide Master Facilities Plan. The master plan included extensive stakeholder meetings and addressed parity amongst all school sites as well as modernizations and additions to support a 21st Century Learning environment.

The new 37,840 SF Student Commons Building included a student/public meeting space, a central outdoor quad, and resource specialists’ offices, featuring tutoring and counseling spaces. The facility also featured health suites, general classrooms, a new main office, conference rooms, reception space, and a central kitchen facility to prepare and distribute means to the entire district and the design of a new continuation high school, Madrone High School.

The project won the 2019 Excellence in Design Award from California’s Coalition for Adequate School Housing (CASH).
